One law, two nicknames

South Africans call the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 both the "POPI Act" and "POPIA". They are the same thing. This page is the plain-language summary; the detailed condition-by-condition statement lives on our POPIA Compliance page.

What the Act does

POPIA gives you control over your personal information — anything that identifies you, from your name and phone number to your ID number, banking details or the data on a laptop you hand in for repair. Any business that processes such information must do so lawfully, transparently and securely.

What it means when you deal with CSS

• We ask for only what the job needs. A repair needs your name, contact details and the device — not your life story.
• Your device data stays yours. We access files only as far as the agreed work requires, and recovery images are deleted after job closure.
• No selling, no spam. Your details are never sold, and marketing always has an opt-out.
• You can ask, fix and delete. Request a copy of what we hold, correct it, or ask us to delete what we don't legally need to keep.
• If something goes wrong, we tell you. A breach that risks your information triggers notification to you and the Information Regulator.
